Transcripts and grades

Keep an eye on your academic progress by checking your grades in myAU. You can check both in-progress and final grades, but the final grade will only appear on your transcript once it becomes official. This can take some time.

Checking grades

You can access your grades through the Manage Your Courses section of myAU. Once an assignment or an exam has been marked, it will appear in your in-progress grades. You can also view your unofficial final grades.

During peak times, the time frame for posting an official grade in your student record (and appearing on your transcripts) can vary and depends on factors such as whether you choose to write a supplemental exam.

It’s important to be aware of timing, especially if you are a visiting student needing to transfer credit back to your home institution. You should plan to complete all of your course requirements at least 4-6 weeks before you need the final grade.

Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office is where students can go if they need assistance with student services issues.

They make sure everyone is treated fairly. They investigate and recommend solutions but are not a replacement for using the regular university channels to seek help or information.

AU transcripts

Your entire academic record will appear on your transcript, including:

Please note that your grades may show in myAU before they appear on your transcript.

Requesting your transcript

Athabasca University now issues transcripts through MyCreds, a secure document-sharing platform. If you’re unable to get into your MyCreds account, please contact the Registrar’s Office, and provide them with your student ID and your email address.

Common transcript questions

What is MyCreds?

Effective May 25, 2023, all transcript requests will be processed through MyCreds.ca™, a fast, secure, and reliable digital portal for accessing and sharing post-secondary transcripts. It was created by the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC), which Athabasca University is a member of.

How do I request a transcript online?

Once you have logged into the Office of the Registrar's Online Services, on the left hand menu bar choose the 'Transcript Request' option to request a transcript online. Please note that you must log in to see the transcript request option. This service allows you to preview your transcript before it is issued to MyCreds™. This preview is an unofficial transcript. If you have trouble accessing the Office of the Registrar Online Services, you may need to reactivate your account (no fee) by clicking here.

Once you have previewed your unofficial transcript and the courses appear as they are supposed to, you can order an official transcript be sent to an external institution. Transcripts are now available through MyCreds™ you will need to follow the link on the email you receive to create an account and pay a fee to MyCreds™ to unlock and securely share your transcripts with external organizations.

Students have the option to:

Note that post-secondary institutions require transcripts be sent directly to them from MyCreds™. Find out more about requesting a transcript in the Athabasca University's online Calendar.

How many transcripts can I request at one time?

By paying the unlock fee, AU students can request to share their transcript with as many institutions as required within 365 days from date of issue. If you need to send transcripts after the access year is up, you will need to pay the unlock fee again. If your transcript has changed since the date you previously requested access, you will need to request a new transcript be issued through the transcript request process in the myAU portal. Only if it outside the year will you be charged the unlock fee again.

Can I view and print an unofficial copy of my transcript before I request it?

Yes, the online student transcript request service allows for you to preview what your transcript will look like before you request it. You can also print a copy of the unofficial transcript. Please note that before proceeding with your transcript request you are required to preview your transcript. Any alteration of any transcripts will result in academic misconduct. To preview your transcript, you must have Acrobat Reader. You can download the free Acrobat Reader from Adobe's Website.

What is the fee for requesting a transcript?

There is a fee of $10, plus tax, to unlock your transcripts in MyCreds™. The access, once purchased, is good for 365 days from date of issue. If you need to share your transcripts after the access year has passed, you will need to pay the unlock fee again.

I am having problems with printing an unofficial transcript. What should I do?

When printing the transcript preview, don't print using PostScript printer drivers. If you are using a PostScript printer driver you will need to choose to 'print as image'. If this does not resolve your printing issue, please contact us.

Can I request a transcript another way?

MyCreds™ is our primary means of issuing transcripts at this time, however, paper transcripts can be issued in exceptional circumstances via the transcript request form via mail or email.

If I request a transcript, when will it be sent?

MyCreds™ transcripts are sent by the next business day. Paper transcript requests require additional time and can take up to 3 to 5 weeks to process.

Why isn't my grade showing on the transcript preview but I can view it online in the gradebook?

The course assistant will need to finalize your grade and submit it to the Office of the Registrar before it will show up on your transcript preview. Please use the preview button in the online system to verify that all the grades you expect appear on your transcript before you proceed with requesting and purchasing access to your official transcripts in MyCreds™. Please note, that you should not proceed with requesting a transcript if you are waiting for a grade to be finalized. If you have requested prior to this, you will need to re-request your transcript for the updated version to appear.

I am having problems accessing the transcript student interface. What should I do?

Why is there a WF for one of my courses listed on my transcript?

How can I find out what other items mean on my transcript?

The back of the official transcript is the legend which indicates the grading system, accreditation/recognition, classification of students, etc. Please contact us for further information.
